The Tuscan Order - Decorative Columns

The Tuscan order shaft has a basic, smooth, un-fluted base, and both capital and entablature are unadorned. There is an unadorned astragal ringing the column under its plain cap. The Tuscan base is comprised of a square plinth and a thick torus which is placed tangent to the edge of the plinth. A cincture (small fillet) is set in from the torous and has a cap with a conge that lightly transitions the fillet to the column.

The entablature is made up of the cornice and the frieze, and the architrave, which are also unadorned. The cymatium is a plain ovolo. Under the cymatium, the bead, fillet, and conge are placed. They have the same proportions as the astragal. The corona is mostly made up of a vertical fascia. The vertical plane and the soffit underneath use a drip to divide them. The lower division of the cornice is made up of the cyma reversa and bed mold.
The Tuscan capital is divided into the abacus, echinus, and neck. The abacus is square and below it, there is an ovolo set in for the echinus. A little fillet and conge lead into the neck. The astragal which uses a bead and fillet is set below the neck at the top of the column.
